The Light Sensitivity Glasses That Changed the Game for My IIH Journey

If you’ve ever lived with light sensitivity, especially if it’s tied to something like migraines, headaches, or a condition like Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), you already know the struggle is real.
I’ve had my fair share of light sensitivity, and it affects everything from my ability to drive at night (headlights are blinding!) to my ability to just see clearly when I’m out and about. And with IIH, which already messes with my vision and adds pressure to my head, things get a lot worse when I’m exposed to light for too long.
The light sensitivity has honestly ruined a lot of things for me—especially things I love to do.
For example, when I’m out playing pickleball, one look up at the lights and it’s like someone just blasted me with a floodlight. I’ll see dots for minutes, and that’s not exactly ideal when you’re trying to play. And kickball? As a pitcher, when that ball comes flying at me from the outfield, it’s impossible to track the ball with the glare in my eyes. It just adds a whole layer of difficulty, and frankly, it can be embarrassing. I never like calling attention to my illness.
I was getting frustrated, especially during sports. I’d try to focus on the game, but the second I looked up at the lights or glanced at the sky, my vision would be taken out. I could barely keep track of what was happening in front of me.
So, I started doing some research. I needed a solution that would help me with the light sensitivity without looking like I was wearing giant goggles or something out of the 80s. That’s when I stumbled on a pair of yellow-lens light sensitivity glasses and decided to try them out.
Watch the TiktTok to the right to hear me talk about them and see an inexpensive pair I got on the TikTok Shop.
I ordered two different pairs to see which would fit my tiny face (seriously, I have a child-size face, and it’s a problem when it comes to glasses). When they arrived, I wasn’t expecting much. But when I put them on and looked outside, I was shocked. The world looked softer, and the blinding lights weren’t so intense anymore.
It wasn’t just about looking better—it was about feeling better. For the first time in ages, I could look up at the bright lights and not feel like I was being hit by a wall of light. Instead, I was comfortable. I could focus on the game, I could see the ball, and I wasn’t constantly battling eye strain. It was a relief I didn’t know I needed.
My friend also tried them on, and he doesn’t even have light sensitivity. He just thought they looked cool and was so obsessed with how everything looked through the glasses that he ended up buying a pair for himself. He said the world just looked more vivid, like everything had a filter on it.
The real magic of these glasses happened when I wore them on the pickleball court. The yellow lenses helped reduce the glare from the court lights, and for the first time, I could actually look up without being temporarily blinded. I was able to look up at the lights, refocus on the ball, and keep playing without losing my vision for minutes at a time. I felt like I had my game back.
And when I had to drive at night, the headlights weren’t as blinding, and I could actually see the road clearly. For someone who has struggled with night driving because of IIH and light sensitivity, this was a total game-changer.
I can’t tell you how many times I wished I had something like this sooner. If you deal with light sensitivity, especially because of migraines, headaches, or something like IIH, you need these yellow-lens light sensitivity glasses in your life. They’ve improved my game, made night driving easier, and helped me live with less discomfort overall.
Here are some options if you are interested in trying them: Avalux and there's a few in my Amazon list.
